Indian govt has banned 54 more Chinese apps that are a threat to our nation’s security, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said on Tuesday. It is also said these 54 apps allegedly gather sensitive personal information from users’ mobile. Also, the gathered data are misused and sent to the server’s country, the source said.
The important banned apps include Beauty Camera – Sweet Selfie HD, Beauty Camera – Selfie Camera, Equalizer – Bass Booster & Volume EQ & Virtualizer, Music Player- Music Mp3 Player, Equalizer & Bass Booster – Music Volume EQ, Music Plus – MP3 Player, Equalizer Pro – Volume Booster & Bass Booster, Video Player Media All Format, Music Player – Equalizer & MP3, Volume Booster – Loud Speaker & Sound Booster, AppLock and Dual Space Lite, etc.
Since May 2020, India has banned 321 Chinese apps including famous apps like TikTok, UC browser, PubG, Camscanner, WeChat, Helo, etc.
The applications were prohibited under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said. It was declared after 20 Indian officers were killed in a clash with Chinese soldiers at Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh.
“Garena’s Free Fire: Illuminate,” was a very popular app on Google, and the Apple play store has been pulled out. The “Free Fire” ban could be a revenue impact of between $78 million and $104 million per quarter, the source said.
