An Internet Protocol address (IP address) is a unique numerical numbers that are assigned to each devices (Like a computer, tablet, or smart phone) when they are connected to the internet. It is used to know your identification and home internet connection address.
There are mainly two types of IP address available in the web.
- IPv4 like 126.96.36.199
- IPv6 like 2179:4061:837:41099:177:7aa0:1bb3:d43c
IPv6 are developed due to internet are spreading so fast, there are running out of combination of numbers. IPv6 addresses provides flexibility of standards. So, IPv6 keep allow us to expand more as much you need. It was being said , IPv4 ip address are still maximum used on the web with ISPs.
The major difference between IPv4 and IPv6 is the maximum number of combination of possible addresses . IPv4 only allows possible addresses up to 4 billion, because it uses only 32 bits. IPv6 was introduced in 1995 by internet engineering task force to ensure that the world would not run out of addresses anytime soon. Whereas IPv6 uses 128 bits, it can generate 3.4 x 1038 possible addresses.
